Conversion of a convent in Bonlanden, Germany

Refurbishment of a historical building

The school building at the convent of the Franciscan Sisters in Bonlanden dates back to 1854 and is now a listed historical structure. As part of the refurbishment project carried out between 2019 and 2021, the former school building was converted into the ‘Haus Faustin Mennel’ conference centre, which also provides accommodation for guests. A particular focus for the architects and project planners was to preserve the style and ambience of the building, while delivering a healthy, comfortable living and working environment.

Impressions of the construction work

Working within the constraints of an existing structure and incorporating the historical ‘Fachwerk’ timber frame structure were particularly challenging when creating the interior airtightness layer. The INTELLO airtight membrane and TESCON VANA adhesive tape were used here. ROFLEX was employed to create dependable seals at pipe feed-throughs.

The inclusion of roof dormers helped to create additional floor area.
