Medium-weight roofing underlay with self-sealing perforations and waterproof adhesive strips
Advantages
- Maximum protection for the roof structure: excellent hail impact resistance as per ETA-23/0532 and VKF (HR 5 class)
- Efficient installation: serves as a roofing underlay with waterproof seams and self-sealing perforations for roof pitches ≥14° (3:12) without the need for additional sealing measures, as per ETA-23/0532
- Reliable rainproof roofs: serves as a sub-roof underlay for roof pitches ≥10° (2.1:12) with TESCON NAIDECK as an additional sealing measure over rigid subsurfaces, as per ETA-23/0532
- Quick waterproof adhesion: with sealing lip at the 'connect’ self-adhesive strips on the long edges of the membrane
- Flexible planning of construction schedules: at least 3 months of outdoor exposure
- Permanent protection: high resistance to ageing and heat of the functional film
- Provides protection during the construction period: suitable as a temporary covering
Areas of application
For use as a diffusion-open roofing underlay over roof sheathing, MDF and wood-fibre underlay panels, and over all thermal insulation materials, including blown-in insulation materials.
For more demanding requirements and more efficient installation work
High performance for all requirements
The SOLITEX QUANTHO 3000 connect membrane’s 2-ply structure provides an ideally matched solution for a wide range of applications in terms of reliability, durability and cost-effectiveness. This membrane has a monolithic, pore-free functional film. This TPU coating on the exterior side of the membrane is based on the latest technology and provides ideal protection against penetrating moisture. It is waterproof for a water column of ≥ 4,500 mm (14' 9"), meaning that SOLITEX QUANTHO 3000 connect is watertight even during driving rain and that it can be exposed to the elements for up to 4 months in Central and Northern Europe, Canada and the northern United States, or 3 months in the rest of the world. This robust TPU coating is reliable even under the demanding conditions of underlay installation and foot traffic, and also during the fitting of the roof covering.
The functional film is also water-repellent and provides ideal protection against penetrating moisture. It reliably protects the structure underneath against damage due to moisture and also prevents the entry of wind. As a result, it prevents insulating layers from cooling down and thus ensures that the insulation will be effective in an optimal manner. The membrane coating has excellent anti-slip behaviour and is thus safe to walk across. SOLITEX QUANTHO 3000 connect is glare-free, thanks to the dark grey tone of its TPU coating.
Optimal protection for roofs
SOLITEX QUANTHO 3000 connect has a pore-free, closed-cell TPU coating as a functional film, which offers particularly good protection against driving rain.
In contrast with conventional roofing underlay membranes where diffusion results from air exchange through a microporous membrane, diffusion occurs actively along the molecular chains in the case of this membrane.
At the same time, this membrane has a low diffusion resistance with an sd value of 0.16 m (g value: 0.8 MN·s/g; vapour permeance: 20.5 perms). With its active moisture transport, the TPU functional film ensures extremely quick drying, which provides the best possible protection for the membrane against ice formation in winter. Remember that diffusion-open roofing underlays are transformed into vapour barriers if ice forms (as ice is impermeable to diffusion) and effectively become moisture traps.
Other particular features of a TPU coating as a functional layer include reliable protection in the presence of wood preservatives (water drops cannot penetrate through the membrane even if there is reduced surface tension, as there are no pores present) and their particularly high thermostability (melting point of TPU approx. 200 °C/392 °F, PET fleece approx. 150 °C/284 °F). This stability at high temperatures gives the plastic material extremely high ageing stability over a period of decades – even on dark-coloured roofs.
How does the perforation-sealing or nail-sealing effect work?
The SOLITEX QUANTHO roofing underlay has been designed with a monolithic TPU functional film layer on top of a backing fleece.
When this functional film is installed onto a level, pressure-resistant substrate, it creates a seal around fasteners such as nails or screws.
The critical factor here is that the membrane is compressed against the pressure-resistant substructure: ≥ 100 kPa (14.5 lbf/in²). Standard wood fibreboards fulfil this pressure resistance criterion.
In this case, the elastic TPU coating creates a long-term waterproof seal around fasteners (nails / screws).
Solid-wood boarding may sag slightly and also has joints; as a result, the nail-sealing effect is not provided reliably on this substrate.
Waterproof adhesion with ‘connect’ strip: Sealing lip provides protection against the capillary effect
The fleece on the back of SOLITEX QUANTHO 3000 connect membranes stops short of the bottom edge of the membrane, resulting in a sealing lip that can be used to stick the TPU layer directly to the TPU layer of the membrane underneath. This seal is waterproof in accordance with the driving rain test of the Technical University of Berlin and with the driving rain test as per the European Assessment Document (EAD). This is a significant advantage on low-pitched roofs for roof pitches greater than 10° (2.1:12).
The perfect system for every application, with certified high performance right down to the last detail!
Excellent hail impact resistance as per DIN EN 13583 (forms part of ETA-23/0532) and additional evaluation according to the Swiss VKF/AEAI directive with a hail impact resistance class of HR 5.
